CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies, today announced $1,112,042 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR). The funding will be used to support the DHHR to look at evidence-based strategies to evaluate and prevent serious cardiovascular diseases.

“According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death in West Virginia, which is why funding like this is welcome news for our state. As the top Republican on the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue my work with HHS, the CDC, and other institutions to help curb this disturbing trend,” Ranking Member Capito said.
