U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia has released a video statement commemorating the first anniversary of the October 7th attacks in Israel. These attacks resulted in the deaths of over one thousand civilians, including American citizens.
Senator Capito also participated in a resolution led by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst from Iowa, which condemns the attack a year later.
In her video statement, Senator Capito remarked, “One year ago today, Israel was brutally and indiscriminately attacked by Hamas terrorists in an act of sheer evil.” She referred to the day as “Black Saturday,” highlighting that more than one thousand innocent people were killed.
She expressed horror at the actions taken by Hamas and other groups, noting that women, children, and elderly Israelis were taken hostage. Some hostages were Holocaust survivors.
Senator Capito stated her disgust with “Hamas’s use of sexual violence on this dark day,” calling it an “inexcusable and disgusting war crime” that should be condemned globally.
As she reflected on the anniversary, she said, “I unequivocally stand with Israel and with the Jewish people, including our communities in West Virginia.”
