Sophomore Gavin Kelly and redshirt junior Maxx Yehl of the No. 9 West Virginia University baseball team were named Big 12 Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, according to a May 11 announcement by the conference.

The recognition marks the second time this season that both Kelly and Yehl have received these honors. The Mountaineers have now earned seven Big 12 weekly awards during this season.

Kelly posted strong offensive numbers over the week, hitting .412 with four home runs, five runs batted in, and six runs scored. He started his week with a two-home run game against Marshall before hitting home runs in each of the first two games at No. 7 Kansas. Kelly recorded at least one hit and scored at least one run in all four games played during the week. His slugging percentage for the week was reported as 1.118 with an OPS of 1.618.

Yehl delivered a complete game on the mound against seventh-ranked Kansas, striking out nine batters while allowing just one run on six hits. With this performance, he lowered his earned run average for the season to a conference-best mark of 2.04.

In program history, this is now the nineteenth occasion that a Mountaineer has been named Big 12 Player of the Week and the twenty-third time a West Virginia pitcher has collected Pitcher of the Week honors.

The Mountaineers are scheduled to play again from May 14 through May 16 against TCU, with first pitch set for Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
