Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced that state employees in West Virginia will receive a half-day off before Thanksgiving. The decision was made through a proclamation signed by the governor.

“In gratitude for the hard work and dedication from our state employees, it is fitting to provide them some additional time to spend with their families and loved ones,” said Governor Morrisey.

According to the order, state employees will be excused from work for the second half of Wednesday, November 26, 2025. This time off will not be deducted from their accrued annual leave. The directive does not apply to private businesses, local governments, or individuals who are not employed by the State of West Virginia.
