Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed a proclamation to honor the victims of the October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel. The attacks, carried out by Hamas militants, resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 Israelis and the taking of 254 hostages.
In his statement, Governor Morrisey urged residents of West Virginia to remember those who lost their lives and to stand against hatred and antisemitism. “On October 7, 2023, the world watched in horror as innocent men, women, and children were brutally attacked simply for who they were,” said Governor Morrisey. “We must never forget the evil that occurred that day or the remaining hostages that have now spent two years in captivity away from their homes and loved ones. West Virginians stand with our allies and with all people of goodwill who reject terror, hatred, and antisemitism.”
The Governor’s proclamation encourages reflection on the tragedy and calls for unity against violence and discrimination.
