Governor Patrick Morrisey has directed that flags be flown at half staff in Marion County and at the Capitol Complex in Charleston on January 16, 2026, to honor former Delegate Paul Prunty. The order will be observed from sunrise to sunset.

In a statement following Prunty’s death, Governor Morrisey said:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Paul Prunty, a dedicated political leader who served Marion and Taylor counties for 11 terms in the House of Delegates.

“From his work helping to establish Valley Falls State Park to his longstanding support of Prickett’s Fort State Park and Fairmont State University, Prunty will forever be remembered for his steadfast commitment to his community.

“Denise and I join all West Virginians in mourning the loss of a true public servant.”

Prunty was recognized for his involvement in local initiatives, including supporting parks and educational institutions in the region.
