Gerald M. Titus III has been appointed to the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals by Governor Patrick Morrisey. The appointment fills the vacancy left after the death of Justice Tim Armstead earlier this year.

Governor Morrisey stated, “After speaking with the finalists following a rigorous and thoughtful deliberation process, I am confident that Justice Titus will serve our state honorably and uphold the rule of law.”

Titus is an alumnus of Washington and Lee University, where he completed both his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor. He has worked at Spilman, Thomas & Battle since 2009, focusing on civil litigation, criminal justice, corporate litigation, and business litigation. His experience also includes serving as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of West Virginia within the Violent Crimes Division.

Titus has received several recognitions throughout his career. He was named a West Virginia Super Lawyers Rising Star from 2015 through 2018 and has been recognized multiple times by The Best Lawyers in America for commercial litigation work.

In response to his appointment, Justice Titus said, “I look forward to applying my full legal abilities and training to reach the right result under the law. I am committed to the rule of law and applying the law as it is written. I believe it’s critical for the Court to remain impartial and ensure fairness for all parties.”

He attended the announcement event with his wife Meredith and their three children.
