Charleston, WV – On July 5, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $857,000 from the U.S. Department of Education for a drop-out prevention and school-to-work transition program through the West Virginia Chamber Foundation Corporation and a teacher professional development program at Shepherd University. This federal funding is one of the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests Senator Manchin secured on behalf of West Virginia through the Fiscal Year 2023 funding bill.
“Every aspect of our education system must focus on enabling West Virginians with the skills and tools they need to compete,” said Senator Manchin. “I am proud to have secured these investments that will improve academic achievement, create new opportunities for students, and prepare our students for careers in the 21st century economy. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to support educational attainment across the Mountain State.”
The Senate Appropriations Committee allows members of Congress to submit CDS requests, which provide opportunities for state and local governments, non-profits, and other public entities to receive targeted funding for projects that bolster their communities and directly support West Virginians.
