Russell Lee Kirk, a 43-year-old resident of Fairmont, West Virginia, has been sentenced to thirty months in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place in Clarksburg, West Virginia.

Court documents and statements made during the proceedings revealed that law enforcement officers discovered a firearm strapped to the steering column of Kirk’s vehicle during a traffic stop. Kirk was prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions for malicious assault and firearms offenses.

“This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the West Virginia State Police.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Cogar prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the proceedings.
