Hetzon Marroquin Reyes, the owner and operator of A&M Homes, LLC in Morgantown, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for employing illegal workers and committing tax fraud. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Matthew L. Harvey.

Reyes, who is also known as “Hector” and is 41 years old, hired and sheltered unauthorized workers at his construction company. He is a resident of Guatemala and was in the United States on a temporary visa. According to authorities, Reyes created false documents for these workers to show to inspectors from the West Virginia Division of Labor and used other people’s social security numbers for their tax paperwork.

The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jarod Douglas.

The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Department of Homeland Security, Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations, and the Social Security Administration-Office of Inspector General.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice that aims to address illegal immigration and combat cartels as well as transnational criminal organizations across the country.

U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the case.
