On July 17, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $5,941,303 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to strengthen healthcare services and bolster the healthcare workforce across West Virginia. The funding will specifically be used to increase access to HIV/AIDS treatment, expand two Nurse Practitioner (NP) residency and fellowship training programs, strengthen substance use disorder treatment services and advance critical research into oral diseases and disorders through Marshall University.

On July 13, the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee held a hearing to receive testimony regarding the Compact of Free Association Amendments Act of 2023, a legislative proposal submitted by the Secretary of State and Secretary of the Interior. On July 13, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) secured a bipartisan amendment to prevent the Biden Administration from banning gas stoves in households across America in the Fiscal Year 2024 Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) funding bill. The amendment mirrors the Gas Stoves Protection and Freedom Act that Senator Manchin and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) introduced in February. The full Senate will vote on this legislation later this year.

Manchin Introduces Bipartisan Legislation to Promote Women's Lung Cancer Research
On July 11, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) introduced the bipartisan Women and Lung Cancer Research and Preventive Services Act to promote increased research into the prevention and management of lung cancer among women, with a specific focus on non-smokers. The American Cancer Society estimates that 59,910 women will die of lung cancer in 2023, and one in five women diagnosed with this illness are lifetime non-smokers.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, released the below statement following a decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit to stay construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline through Jefferson National Forest. The Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 ratified and approved all necessary permits for Mountain Valley Pipeline in order for construction to resume and stated that no court shall have jurisdiction to consider further litigation of these permits.
