Capito, Carper, Mcmorris Rodgers, Pallone Lead Bipartisan, Bicameral Effort Urging Nrc to Establish Useable Advanced Nuclear Reactor Licensing Framework
U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, Tom Carper (D-Del.), Chairman of the EPW Committee, U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.-05), Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-N.J.-06), Ranking Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, led 20 senators and 44 House members in sending a letter to each member of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) urging the commissioners to carefully review and modify, as necessary, the draft licensing framework for advanced nuclear reactor technologies to establish the regulations to enable the deployment of advanced reactors.

Last week, U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) reintroduced the bipartisan Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act, legislation that would expand research and raise awareness through public education programs to support women suffering from uterine fibroids. The legislation is named after the late U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio, who championed this issue.

This bipartisan legislation would bolster the palliative care and hospice workforce and meet the growing need for care by investing in training, education, and research.

On July 10, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) delivered remarks at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the University of Charleston’s (UC) Downtown Innovation Hub (DIH) in Charleston, W.Va. Senator Capito helped secure funding for the facility’s construction with a $1.5 million U.S. Economic Development Agency (EDA) grant in May of 2022.
