U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, has secured Drug Free Community (DFC) grant funding from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) for two West Virginia organizations: the Nicholas Intervention Coalition and the Raleigh County Prevention Coalition, Inc. The grants are intended to assist local community organizations in raising awareness about substance use dangers and preventing addiction among young people.

“I was proud to work with our local West Virginia and federal partners to secure critical funding that will combat the addiction crisis in our state and help save lives,” Senator Capito stated. “As a leader on the Senate Appropriations Committee, I have been committed to securing federal resources that will help combat the scourge of opioids across West Virginia, and these grants are another tool to aid us in our fight.”

The individual awards include:

– $125,000 in ONDCP DFC grant funding to the Raleigh County Prevention Coalition, Inc. (Beckley, W.Va.) to establish and strengthen community collaboration in support of local efforts to prevent youth substance use.
– $125,000 in ONDCP DFC grant funding to the Nicholas Intervention Coalition (Summersville, W.Va.) to establish and strengthen community collaboration in support of local efforts to prevent youth substance use.
