During a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito introduced Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as President Donald J. Trump’s nominee for the role of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. The nomination was announced by President Trump in November 2024.

Senator Capito expressed her admiration for Congresswoman Stefanik, highlighting the importance and challenges of the ambassadorial position. She stated, “The job she has been selected to carry out for President Trump is not an easy one—but it is extremely important.”

Capito addressed concerns regarding the current state of the United Nations, mentioning issues such as antisemitism and the empowerment of countries like China, Russia, and Iran within the organization. She emphasized the need to reestablish U.S. leadership at what she referred to as a “broken institution” and praised Stefanik’s qualifications for this task.

Throughout her remarks, Capito commended Stefanik’s experience in public service, noting her leadership roles in the House of Representatives and her involvement with both Armed Services and Intelligence committees. She described Stefanik as having “an exceptional command of national security issues.”

In closing, Senator Capito expressed confidence in Stefanik’s ability to execute her duties effectively at the United Nations on behalf of President Trump and the American people.
