WVU Strolls to Second Straight Win

The West Virginia University men's soccer team earned a 3-0 win over Lehigh on Tuesday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.

In the team's final nonconference match of the season, the Mountaineers (4-6-2) featured three different goal scorers in a dominant performance, which resulted in their second consecutive victory. WVU outshot the Mountain Hawks (3-6-2), 18-3, in the affair, including 5-0 in shots on goal.

West Virginia opened the night with a 35th-minute goal by junior forward Yutaro Tsukada, who sent a rocket into the top corner of the net for his first career tally. The assist came from freshman forward Marcus Caldeira, who later earned a spot on the score sheet in the win.

Just 42 seconds into the second half, Caldeira found the back of the net after Tsukada and fifth-year senior Adam Burchell connected on the assists. The tally marked the third in the last two games for the Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, native.

Redshirt junior midfielder/defender Sergio Ors Navarro finished the job with a goal in the 69th minute, his second of the season. After a WVU corner kick was partially cleared, Ors Navarro pounced on a loose ball in the box to score.

Ors Navarro and junior midfielder Ryan Crooks co-led WVU with three shots on the night, while four others finished with two shot attempts. In goal, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Marc Bonnaire went unchallenged on his way to his second clean sheet in as many matches.

WVU's 18 shots against Lehigh were good for a season high. Additionally, Tuesday was the first time West Virginia held an opponent without a shot on goal since Sept. 21, 2021, against Dayton.

With the win, the Mountaineers improved to 1-0-1 against the Mountain Hawks all time. The squad is now unbeaten in 18 of its last 19 home games, as well as 10-1-2 in home, nonconference games under third-year coach Dan Stratford.

Next up, West Virginia welcomes in No. 2 Kentucky for a critical Sun Belt Conference matchup on Saturday, Oct. 15. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.
