The Senators swimming teams competed in the 3-session Corbiere-Merion Invitational in Delaware, Ohio on November 19th, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. The men's team set several new team records as well as one program first in the meet, the final competition of the fall semester for D&E.
The women's team was led by Bry Gollmer and the distance squad who kicked the meet off with strong performances in the Women's 500 Freestyle. Gollmer finished first with a time of 5:30.49. Emily Oldham (4th), Grace Janas (5th), Liz Craig (7th) and Heather Maddux (8th) rounded out the final finishers for the event. The Women's 200 Free was Gollmer's second win of the morning with a time of 2:05.31 in a very tight race.
The Men's 100 Butterfly was won by Geoff Dixon with a season best time of 51.88.
The Men's 100 Breast had a 1-2 finish from the dynamic duo of Enrique Garcia and Edwin Li. Garcia's time of 55.36 sets a team record, but more importantly is a provisional cut - or a NCAA B STANDARD - for Division II. This is the first a time standard has been achieved in program history.
A second 1-2 finish for the Senators came in the Men's 100 Backstroke, led by seniors Jiwh Santos and Geoff Dixon. Santos' time of 51.88 sets another team record.
The session wrapped up with yet another record finish, this time for the Men's 400 Free Relay (3:09.65) swam by Jiwh Santos, Viggy Muley, Enrique Garcia, and Geoff Dixon.
The second session was off to a quick start with a Women's 200 IM win from Becca Rodriques (2:15.14). Teammates Julia Viera, (5th) Liz Craig (7th), and Hannah Phillips (8th) added big points for D&E. The Senators continued to dominate in the IM with another win in the Men's 200 IM from Enrique Garcia (1:54.93) along with huge contributions from Gage Vondrasek (3rd) and Payne McCann (5th). Two sprinters dominated the Women's 100 Free with Shelbey Fuller's first place finish (56.34) and Daphne McCann right behind. Casey Hayford won the Women's 200 Back (2:14.99) with Bry Gollmer (2nd), Daphne McCann (5th), and Heather Maddux (8th) rounding out the top! The Men's 200 Back also had a strong showing in the front of the pack with a top finish of 1:57.23 from Jiwh Santos and 1:57.33 from Geoff Dixon, while Nick Allen finished 8th. Vignesh Muley won the Men's 200 Fly with a season best of 1:58.74. Enrique Garcia finished first in the Men's 200 Breast with a 2:06.60 and teammate Edwin Li finished 2nd. Gage Vondrasek and Jackson Dearth finished together at 5th and 6th. To complete the night, the Men's 800 Free Relay broke a long-standing record with a new time of 7:03.91 (J. Santos, V. Muley, E. Garcia, G. Dixon).
In the short, final session, Senators saw wins in the Women's 50 Free from Daphne McCann (25.97) and the Men's 50 Free from Jiwh Santos (21.71). Jackson Dearth finished 4th and Edwin Li finished 6th. The Men's 400 IM might have been the most impressive sweep for the senators lead by Enrique Garcia 4:13.98 (1st), Geoff Dixon (2nd), Payne McCann (3rd), and Gage Vondrasek (4th). The Men's 200 Free Relay team of Jiwh Santos, Viggy Muley, Enrique Garcia, and Geoff Dixon would break one more record before the meet wrapped with a time of 1:27.12 . The Women's 1650 Free would cap off the day for the lady Senators with a final win from Bry Gollmer (18:56.44) and strong finishes from her training partners Grace Janas (3rd), Emily Oldham (4th), and Liz Craig (5th).
Senior Bernardo Rodrigues swam his final meet for the Senators with fantastic finishes in the 200 free (4th), 1650 free (5th), and 500 free (6th).
