After individually qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships held at Chambers Bay Regional Park in University Place, Washington, Emeric Arnaud competed with an elite field of runners and left with All-American honors for D&E.
The lead up to the race already felt like a celebratory atmosphere. Being a festival year, all teams and athletes were staged in the same host hotel in Seattle, making for an "Olympic Village" like experience.
On race day, Emeric came out hard, positioning himself in the lead pack early with a fast opening 1K. He pushed his pace throughout, keeping himself within the top-25 for most of the race. His 35th place finish was just 21-seconds away from a top-10 finish in what was a tightly packed elite race field. Less than one minute separated the top-40 runners.
Arnaud's time of 30:27 set a new D&E Cross Country program record for the men's 10K and made him the first All-American in program history. He already holds the program record for the fastest 8K.
The championship race ends what has been an accolade-filled 4-year career for Arnaud. He holds most of the program records, is the first All-American, and he will graduate this December as arguably the greatest runner in Davis & Elkins College history!
