Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic
The Bridgeport Fire Civil Service Commission will be accepting applications to establish a certified list from which future vacancies on the Bridgeport Fire Department will be filled. The requirements for all applicants are as follows: must be not less than 18 of age on the date on which he/she applies; must have a high school diploma or GED; must be a citizen of the U.S; must have a valid motor vehicle’s operator’s license; must successfully complete and pass various mandatory examinations; must be able to pass a physical ability test to be given (details of the test to include date, time and location will be issued with the application); must possess Firefighter 1 certification, Haz-mat awareness certification, a current EMT License or higher, and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course or equivalent certification. Candidates possessing an IAFF/IAFC certified CPAT card/certificate valid within the last twelve months will not be required to take the Physical Ability Test portion of the testing process. Within the first 30 days of employment, the applicant must obtain a Firefighter 2 certification provided by the City. Within the first 12 months of employment, the applicant must obtain certifications in Principle of Extrication, Hazard Materials Operation and driver/pump operator. Starting annual salary for a probationary EMT is $43,562.50 and for a probationary paramedic the beginning annual salary is $48,946.83.
