CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and actress Halle Berry hosted a Girls Rise Up event at Piedmont Elementary School in Charleston, W.Va., promoting female empowerment, education, fitness, and self-confidence.

During the program, Senator Capito and Berry discussed their career paths with fifth-grade female students and emphasized the importance of leadership. Students participated in the Girls Rise Up Challenge and committed to goals aimed at setting them on a path to success. This event marks the 32nd since the program's launch in 2015.

“Inspiring the next generation of West Virginians—especially our young women—is so important to me,” Senator Capito said. “It was so special to have an accomplished female actress like Halle Berry here with me in Charleston to help deliver this message. This message comes at such a critical point in the lives of these young women, and I am confident that they will go on to do great things in the future.”

Senator Capito launched the West Virginia Girls Rise Up program in 2015 to instill confidence in young West Virginia women and empower them to be strong and kind leaders. The program focuses on three areas: education, fitness, and self-confidence.
