The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Behavioral Health (BBH) is marking Children's Mental Health Acceptance Week by raising awareness about the significance of children's mental health. The initiative emphasizes the necessity for services that aid in recovery, resilience, and success for young people.
Governor Jim Justice has officially declared May 5-11, 2024, as Children's Mental Health Acceptance Week in the state. Christina Mullins, DoHS Deputy Secretary of Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders, highlighted the importance of support systems. “Seeing the resilience of our children shines a light on the importance of support systems for West Virginia families navigating mental health challenges,” she stated. “Let’s come together to ensure every child feels heard, understood, and supported on their journey to wellness.”
The Children’s Crisis and Referral Line is a key resource provided by HELP4WV to address behavioral health crises. Families can access services through this helpline by calling or texting 844-HELP4WV (1-844-435-7498) or chatting at help4wv.com/ccl. Additionally, individuals experiencing emotional distress can reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This lifeline provides 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who assist those dealing with mental health-related issues such as suicidal thoughts or substance use crises.
