The West Virginia Department of Health is backing the Mountaineer Food Bank's inaugural Health and Hunger Summit, scheduled for May 30 and 31, 2024, at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV. The summit aims to enhance access to nutritious food and invites individuals passionate about combating hunger in their communities.

Participants will engage in discussions with nutrition experts and attend workshops on nutritional guidelines, policy-making, grant writing, and more. "We believe in a West Virginia where no one goes to bed hungry today or tomorrow and our hope is that this event will go a long way in addressing this common goal," stated Mountaineer Food Bank CEO Chad Morrison.

Key topics will include overcoming barriers to food access and exploring issues like food insecurity and the state's school lunch program. "This is a unique opportunity to bring key stakeholders to the same table and learn from others about strategies that are working in the mission to improve access to nutritional foods in the state," remarked Department of Health Secretary Sherri Young, D.O., MBA, FAAFP.
