The West Virginia Department of Health is seeking to assemble a leadership team to manage the implementation of a $199 million investment in rural healthcare. The funding, announced by Governor Patrick Morrisey, comes through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) and is set for 2026.

Dr. Arvin Singh, Secretary of Health for West Virginia, emphasized the need for skilled professionals: “We are ready to hit the ground running with this program, and to do that, we need to recruit and hire talented, passionate individuals,” Singh said. “This is a historic opportunity to build a healthier future for West Virginia, and we encourage the best and brightest to join us in this unprecedented effort.”

Governor Morrisey stated that the new funding would have broad impacts across the state. “The $199 million investment for 2026 provides a transformative foundation to improve health outcomes, expand access to care, and strengthen families and communities throughout West Virginia,” he said. “This award positions our state to deliver better care closer to home and build a healthier future for generations to come.”

The RHTP was created as part of federal legislation intended to provide states with resources necessary for public health infrastructure improvements. In West Virginia, priorities include reducing distances between patients and providers, addressing shortages among rural healthcare workers, supporting those providers with additional resources, connecting residents with workforce opportunities as their health improves, focusing on preventive measures such as nutrition and exercise, and developing technology aimed at both health improvement and economic growth.

West Virginia’s allocation represents the highest per capita award among neighboring states during the first year of what will be a five-year grant period. The program aims not only at improving measurable health outcomes but also at supporting community stability.

Applications are now open for several leadership roles within the RHTP team including director positions as well as other managerial posts.
