The National Rifle Association (NRA) has announced ratings for candidates running for a position in the U.S. Senate, and gave West Virginia Governor Jim Justice an “A+” rating. 

Justice was the only Republican West Virginia candidate to receive an “A+,” the highest possible rating NRA gives out. Alexander X. Mooney received an “A,” while  Janet McNulty,  Bryan McKinney, and  Zane Lawhorn received “AQ” meaning their ratings were based solely on their answers to a survey as they did not have legislative voting records. 

Justice’s rating means he has voted with support for all issues important to the NRA, and has also “made a vigorous effort to promote and defend the Second Amendment.”

“I’m grateful for the highest rating possible from the NRA and its members, and the grade is attributed to my strong Second Amendment record,” Justice said. “As a lifelong hunter and outdoorsman, I strongly support the Second Amendment and the great traditions around responsible firearm ownership. The Second Amendment guarantees our people the right to keep and bear arms. As the next U.S. Senator from West Virginia, I’ll fight against radical gun control laws and oppose liberal judicial nominees who support infringing on the rights of law-abiding gun owners.”
