U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, led 47 bipartisan Senators in urging Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Jennifer Granholm to refrain from finalizing a DOE efficiency standard that would worsen the current shortage of distribution transformers, which are critical grid products. The proposed rule comes at a time when the availability of essential grid components remains a significant challenge for the electric power industry, and while the industry is struggling due to a substantial increase in demand, supply chain issues and a skilled workforce shortage.

Manchin Announces $22 Million To Strengthen Healthcare Services Across West Virginia
On May 30, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $22,007,997 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to strengthen healthcare services across West Virginia. The funding will specifically be used to prevent and control the spread of cancer and infectious diseases, strengthen Black Lung clinic programs, expand access to pediatric mental health and substance use disorder health services as well as bolster school-based medical programs. The funding announced today was made possible in part by the American Rescue Plan.

On June 1, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, announced that West Virginia will receive $140,684,000 in Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23) to reclaim abandoned mine lands (AML). This funding was part of the Energy Infrastructure Act that Chairman Manchin ushered through the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and subsequently included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
