Neera Tanden’s confirmation as head of the Office of Management and Budget seems in doubt as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) declares that he will oppose it.
Manchin’s reason for doing so is due to Tanden’s previous public statements and social media posts, which were mostly partisan and even inflammatory.
Manchin said that he carefully reviewed Tanden’s public statements and social media posts and criticized her for targeting Republicans and Democrats alike. Manchin said that her statements could further widen the divide between the two parties.
Manchin said that there has been enough bickering amongst Republicans and Democrats and that this should be a time for all of them to come together and work side-by-side. He said that if Tanden gets nominated as the director of the Office of Management and Budget her inflammatory remarks might send both parties on a collision course that will further divide them.
Tanden has clashed with both Republicans and Democrats before. She called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) “Moscow Mitch,” and she has butted heads with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).
Tanden has apologized for her remarks, although Manchin still hasn’t changed his mind.
The Senate Budget Committee will vote on her nomination next week.
