Senators 3-1 at Crimson Hawk Classic

Davis & Elkins enjoyed a solid bounce back weekend performance at the Crimson Hawk Classic, hosted by Indiana University of Pennsylvania as the Senators finished the tournament 3-1.

D&E began the invitational losing in three sets to the hosts IUP (25-23, 25-22, 25-18). Macie Magallon had eleven kills in the match, while Reanne Debose and Maria Isabel Butruce Candiota each added five. Brilane Manchego led the Senators with 22 assists. Katie Beth Caudill led all players with eight aces in the game. Clara Caralt added twelve digs, while Jeanne Hassoun added five and Manchego had four.

The Senators bounced back a few hours later on Friday with a 3-2, five-set thriller over a solid University of Indianapolis squad (25-21, 20-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-10). Magallon added 20 kills in the match. Manchego had 43 assists and Debose added 16 digs. Butruce Candiota had 14 kills, four aces, and a pair of assists in the match.

Saturday morning, D&E made fairly short work of the Saints of D'Youville College. The Senators won in straight sets 25-16, 25-16, 25-14. Debose led all players in kills with ten. Brianna Portley and Butruce Candiota followed with nine kills each. Manchego was the match leader with 28 assists. Caralt, Butruce Candiota, and Hassoun added nine, eight, and eight digs, respectively.

In the Senators' fourth match of the tournament, D&E picked up their third win of the weekend with a 3-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan (25-23, 25-9, 25-9). Debose contributed nine kill, three aces, and ten digs. Manchego added 31 assists and nine digs. Butruce Candiota added eight kills, while Magallon added seven. Hassoun chipped in five aces and Caralt added nine digs.

The Senators are now 7-5 as they head into Mountain East Conference play. They kick off MEC action Tuesday, September 20 at 7pm at home against Glenville State.
