D&E Track Opens Indoor Season at YSU Invitational With Record Breaking Performances

The Davis & Elkins track and field teams opened up the 2023 indoor track season competing at the YSU Collegiate Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University on Friday, January 20. Competing against over 1,800 athletes at the Division I-hosted track meet, D&E left with 2 new school records and five top-10 finishes.
Senior Anya Miler started the day by running a 5:18.41 time in the mile, breaking the old record held by Svea Timm (5:20) that was set in 2020. Freshman Savanna Hardman, running in her first ever indoor meet, ran to a 5:27 finish, a top-5 performance in D&E indoor track history.
Following up the record run by Miller was Sophomore Carter McKenna who broke his own record in the mile, running 4:14.40 to finish third overall in the stacked event that included 76 total competitors. In what was the strongest event of the day for the D&E team, McKenna was followed by teammates Junior Henry Schmidt (7th, 4:18), Sophomore Jackson Gibson (12th, 4:20), and Freshman Konnor Allison (17th, 4:21).
All of the men's times are currently ranked in the top-10 of MEC performances, and McKenna's and Schmidt's times are currently both ranked in the top-10 in the Atlantic Region.
Additional top-10 finishes came from Gibson doubling back in the 800 (6th, 1:58.07), Freshman Cooper Gibson (9th, 1:58.68), and Allison (10th, 1:58.8)
The Senators head back to Youngstown State again this upcoming weekend (January 27-28) for the 2-day YSU Mid-Major Invitational.
