Courcelle Named Men's Lacrosse Assistant Coach

Davis & Elkins Director of Lacrosse David Pomeroy, along with Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Michael Zadroga, named Anthony Courcelle as the next assistant coach of the Davis & Elkins men's lacrosse team. Courcelle comes to D&E after his Lacrosse playing career at Division I Marquette University, where he played for 6 years under coaches Joe Amplo, Jake Richard and Andrew Stimmel.

While at Marquette, Courcelle played LSM but quickly transitioned into a lockdown short stick defensive midfielder. Unfortunately, he finished out his collegiate lacrosse career with an injury, and the Golden Eagles had an early exit at the Big East tournament.

Courcelle was also heavily involved in coaching wheelchair lacrosse in Milwaukee during his time at Marquette. He continues to be very involved in the growth of the adaptive sports game in Florida with the introduction of a new Miami team.

"Anthony is going to be a huge addition to our program," said Coach Zadroga. "He brings elite playing experience and character, both of which will help mentor our young men this season and beyond. I am excited to get started with him and I know the guys are as well."

At D&E, Coach Courcelle will take on the Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator roles under Head Coach Michael Zadroga. The two were teammates at Marquette University and look to bring a similar defensive-minded game to D&E Lacrosse with Anthony joining the staff.

"The hiring of Coach Zadroga has been a blessing for our program, and seeing his enthusiasm about bringing on Anthony as his assistant only made me more excited for the young men this season," said Pomeroy.

Courcelle, from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, played high school football and lacrosse at Cypress Bay High School in South Florida before joining the Marquette LAX team. He is currently working toward his Masters Degree. He also currently plays professional box lacrosse in the PBLA for the Salem Mayhem, where he looks to help his team to a successful season in their inaugural year.

The Senators Men's Lacrosse team begins their 2023 campaign on February 9 when they head to Rome, Georgia to play Shorter University. Their first home game will be on February 18, when they face Thomas More University at Nuttall Field starting at 12:00pm EST.
