Davis & Elkins junior Sam Rolle IV earned NCAA Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Atlantic Second Team, the association announced today following a vote of the region's sports information directors.
Rolle, a 5-11 guard from Riviera Beach, Florida led his team on a historic run during the 2022-23 season that saw the Senators win their final four regular season games and win eight of their last nine in the regular season before advancing to the Mountain East Conference Tournament as a six-seed. The Senators won their quarterfinal matchup with the third-seeded University of Charleston and fell in the semifinals to Fairmont State. D&E finished the year 19-11 and 12-10 in the MEC.
The nineteen wins represented an eleven-game turnaround from a season ago when the Senators went 8-21 overall and 6-12 in the MEC. Nineteen wins also represents the most wins for D&E since the 1951-52 season.
Rolle started every game for D&E but Senior Day and led the Senators in minutes played (1013), field goals made (183), field goals attempted (430), free throws made (143), free throw attempts (188), points (551), scoring average (18.4), assists (165), and steals (76).
Rolle also led the MEC in minutes played, assists, and steals and was sixth in the league in scoring average. He was previously name All-MEC First Team, was named to the All-MEC Tournament Team, and earned the Commissioner's Heart and Hustle Award for his gritty play in the MEC Tournament.
Rolle stands third in Division II with 2.53 steals per game and eighteenth in assists per game with 5.5.
West Liberty's Bryce Butler headlines the 2022-23 D2CCA All-Atlantic Region Men's Basketball teams as the Atlantic Region Player of the Year.
Butler is joined on the D2CCA All-Atlantic Region First Team by Shippensburg's Carlos Carter, Indiana's Shawndale Jones, Pitt-Johnstown's John Paul Kromka and Virginia Union's Robert Osborne. First team selections advance to the D2CCA All-America ballot.
Rolle is joined on the All-Atlantic Region Second Team by East Stroudsburg's Carlos Pepin, Concord's Daniel Rahama, Fairmont State's Isaiah Sanders and Shippensburg's Dom Sleva.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Atlantic Region schools and conferences selected the two all-region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later in the month. The Atlantic Region consists of schools from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Mountain East Conference (MEC), and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), along with independents Bluefield State and Salem.
The team is sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, which encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
