Patrick Smith joins the Davis & Elkins Men's and Women's Golf programs as an Assistant Coach for the spring 2023 season.

Smith attended D&E as an undergraduate and played golf for coaches JD Lamm and Alasdair Forsythe. The Beckley, West Virginia native enjoyed several top-ten finishes as a freshman, including a low round of 67 (-5) in the Great Midwest Conference Fall Tournament where he placed fifth overall. Smith grew as a golfer under the tutelage of Lamm and Forsythe and helped the Senators to several team victories and high finishes. He was named All-Mountain East Conference Second Team during his sophomore season. In his senior season, he had the opportunity to play in the NCAA Regional for the first time and qualified for the National Championships with his team.

"While attending Davis & Elkins College I learned many things," Smith shared. "I received a high-quality education, while being surrounded by some great people. Being a part of the golf team, I had several amazing moments that I will always cherish."

It was in the moments he wasn't playing that Smith discovered his passion for coaching. "When I wasn't playing much, I got to help our coach Alasdair Forsythe. It really sparked my interest in coaching."

Now, under Head Coach David Woodrum, who Smith has known for many years, Patrick feels he has a real opportunity to give back to the program.

Smith couples his time with the golf program with a position in D&E's business office as the Accounts Payable Coordinator.

Smith concluded, "being back in Elkins has been great. Once again, I am surrounded by the amazing people that welcomed me here when I arrived on campus in the fall of 2018. I'm looking forward to what the future holds for me and the programs."
