WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee and a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $12,037,000 for two water infrastructure projects from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

One of the projects is located in Davis, W.Va., while the other is located in Buckhannon, W.Va. This funding for both projects was made available through Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made and secured by Senator Capito in Fiscal Year 2022. Specifically, the funding for the Hodgesville Public Service District was requested solely by Senator Capito.

In total, Senator Capito secured $241,135,000 in direct spending measures for initiatives and projects across West Virginia through the Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 appropriations omnibus package.

“This funding will help support long-overdue clean water projects for residents in Tucker and Upshur Counties. As Ranking Member of the EPW Committee and a leader on the Appropriations Committee, I have worked to understand the infrastructure needs of our communities, and specifically requested this support on behalf of Canaan Valley and Hodgesville. I will continue working to ensure our communities have the resources and reliable infrastructure needed to deliver clean water to our residents,” Senator Capito said.

Individual awards listed below:

  • $8,000,000 for the Canaan Valley Public Service District (Davis, W.Va.): This agreement provides funding to Canaan Valley Public Service District, to implement its project to construct a new water treatment plant (WTP) to provide potable water service and support future water demands.
  • $4,037,000 for the Hodgesville Public Service District (Buckhannon, W.Va.): This agreement provides funding to Hodgesville Public Service District to implement its project to rehabilitate the water distribution system.
