WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today issued the following statement celebrating West Virginia Day on June 20th, the state’s 160th birthday. Senator Capito also posted a video statement commemorating the occasion.
“June 20th holds such special reverence in our state, and is truly a day of celebration across all 55 of our counties. West Virginia is a state formed during unimaginable turmoil, and proudly embodies our state’s motto by ensuring that mountaineers will always be free.
“I’ve often said that our state is like one big small town, with dedicated residents that truly care for one another. For generations, our state has played a pivotal role in the foundation of our country, and the people of our state continue to step up and prove our resiliency whenever our communities need it. I encourage West Virginians to take pride in our state today, as we continue our work together to make West Virginia all that it is destined to be.”
