U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS), announced two awards from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) aimed at improving rural health services and emergency services in West Virginia.

These awards were secured through Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests made by Senator Capito for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24). The funding will facilitate the acquisition of new ambulances for Braxton County and support the expansion of the UniteUs West Virginia Program.

“As the Ranking Member of the Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, I was able to secure the funding to help direct resources from HHS directly into our West Virginia communities,” said Ranking Member Capito. “These awards will help connect West Virginians to critical health and emergency services, especially in our rural areas, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have in our state.”

The individual award details are as follows:

- A $470,000 HHS CDS award to FaithHealth Appalachia, Inc. in Huntington, W.Va., to expand the UniteUs West Virginia program. This initiative aims to provide critical healthcare and wraparound services to rural residents.

- A $400,000 HHS CDS award to Braxton County for purchasing two new ambulances for the Braxton County Emergency Ambulance Service Authority.
