The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS), Bureau for Social Services (BSS) is joining a nationwide effort to recognize March as National Social Work Month. This initiative aims to honor the essential contributions made by social workers.

Governor Jim Justice has officially declared March as Social Work Month in West Virginia. Social workers play a vital role in helping individuals, groups, and families manage everyday challenges. Clinical social workers are also responsible for diagnosing and treating mental, behavioral, and emotional issues.

"Social workers are the heart and soul of our mission, contributing to the well-being of every individual in our community,” stated Jeff Pack, DoHS Bureau for Social Services Commissioner. “This month is a dedicated time to honor their commitment and the significant impact they make in the lives of West Virginians."

Within DoHS’s BSS, social workers serve in various roles to meet the diverse needs of individuals and families throughout West Virginia. They provide important services including adult residential support, children’s foster care services, and home and community-based resources.
