U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia and a member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, has announced her support for Governor Kristi Noem's confirmation as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Following her vote in favor, Senator Capito released a statement outlining her reasons.

Senator Capito highlighted the outcome of the November 5 elections, stating that it conveyed dissatisfaction with "the open border policies of the Biden-Harris administration," which she believes have led to insecurity among citizens. She emphasized the need for leadership at DHS that will "faithfully execute the law and secure our borders" while managing responsibilities such as cybersecurity, disaster relief and recovery, and air and coastal security.

Expressing confidence in Noem's capabilities, Capito remarked on her previous experience working alongside Noem in the House of Representatives. She noted Noem's "tenacity and strength" as qualities that make her suitable for this role. Senator Capito looks forward to collaborating with both Governor Noem and the Trump administration to enhance national safety.
