U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has confirmed her support for Sean Duffy as the new Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation. As a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Capito voted in favor of Duffy's appointment.
Capito stated, "I have known Sean Duffy for years and worked closely with him during our time in the House of Representatives. His promise to leave a legacy of increased safety on our roads, waterways, and skies at the Department of Transportation is a noble effort that both Republicans and Democrats can unite behind." She expressed her enthusiasm about collaborating with Duffy and the Trump administration on transportation initiatives.
Earlier this month, during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce Committee, Capito questioned Duffy. She supported reporting his nomination favorably out of committee, where it passed unanimously with a 28-0 vote on January 22, 2025. Prior to this hearing, Capito met with Duffy in December 2024 to discuss his plans for leading the department.
Capito and Duffy have previously worked together in the U.S. House of Representatives.
