The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) has announced the appointment of Alex J. Mayer as its new Cabinet Secretary. Governor Patrick Morrisey selected Mayer, who is a U.S. Army veteran with over 12 years of experience in public administration, operations management, strategic planning, and public policy.
Mayer's career in public service includes leadership roles in South Dakota, where he most recently served as Chief of Children and Family Services. In this position, he managed programs related to Child Welfare and Economic Assistance such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and Child Support. His background also includes initiatives in chronic disease prevention and public health.
Known for his collaborative leadership style, Mayer has been recognized for building effective partnerships that drive positive outcomes. His approach has helped foster trust and achieve results across various public health and social services programs.
