U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito from West Virginia announced her decision to support the confirmation of Kash Patel as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). After casting her vote, she issued a statement outlining Patel's qualifications for the role.
Senator Capito emphasized Patel's diverse experience in law enforcement. "From being a public defender in the state of Florida, to a federal prosecutor in the Department of Justice, to Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the United States National Security Council, to Chief of Staff to the Secretary in the Department of Defense, Kash Patel’s extensive background in law enforcement gives him the experience needed to lead the FBI," she stated.
She expressed confidence in his ability to focus on public safety and serve American citizens effectively. "I have confidence that Director Patel will lead the FBI with a focus on protecting and serving the American people, and will work to restore safety to our streets," Senator Capito added.
In December 2024, Senator Capito met with Patel to discuss his nomination and understand his vision for leading the FBI.
