U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Roger Wicker have spearheaded a letter to President Donald J. Trump, expressing support from Senate Republicans for enhancing U.S. offensive cyber capabilities. This move aims to restore deterrence against China amid concerns over cyber attacks.

The letter highlights several cyber attacks attributed to Chinese actors during the Biden administration, including breaches into critical infrastructure systems and espionage on millions of Americans through compromised telecommunications providers. The senators urge decisive action to secure American networks and impose higher costs on adversaries.

"Mr. President, it is clear that deterrence must be restored in the cyber domain," the senators stated. "We stand ready to support you and your administration in imposing higher costs on adversaries who attack our country in the cyber domain."

The letter was signed by Senators Marsha Blackburn, Bill Hagerty, Kevin Cramer, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Pete Ricketts, Tommy Tuberville, Todd Young, Thom Tillis, Dave McCormick, and Jim Justice.

It also congratulates President Trump on his recent inauguration as the 47th President of the United States and expresses eagerness to work with him on national security issues.

Recent incidents mentioned include a hack into the U.S. Department of the Treasury during the final week of Biden's presidency and an espionage operation named Salt Typhoon involving U.S. telecommunications companies.

Senators emphasized their readiness to collaborate with President Trump in enhancing America's offensive cyber capabilities.
