U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, serving as Chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, has voted to advance the nominations of David Fotouhi and Aaron Szabo for key positions within the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The committee favorably reported both nominations with a vote of 10-9, moving them forward to the full U.S. Senate for further consideration.
Senator Capito expressed her support for the nominees, stating, "Both Mr. Fotouhi and Mr. Szabo are qualified and well-equipped to fulfill the roles that they have been nominated for at the EPA. I have confidence they will refocus the Agency back to fulfilling its core mission, and away from pushing extreme regulations that threaten the reliability of our electric grid and American competitiveness."
She emphasized the importance of having nominees who possess experience in advising entities on compliance with regulations rather than solely focusing on regulation itself. "Too often, we have nominees that have a lot of experience regulating, but no experience advising entities on complying with regulations," she noted.
The nominations now await deliberation by the full U.S. Senate.
