Kestrel 47 also features contributions from the Kestrel Symposium: Writing Through the Pandemic: Contemporary Folklore held on April 8 and 9 at the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center. Contributors include Douglas Van Gundy, Sally Rosen Kindred, Bob Kunzinger, Daniel McTaggart, Natalie Sypolt, Jane Varley, Robert Wallace and Randi Ward.

“Returning to in-person events, like the Symposium in April, which was funded by a mini-grant from Fairmont State, and the upcoming Celebration, provide opportunities for students and the whole campus to engage with visiting writers and for those writers to experience all that Fairmont State has to offer,” said Fairmont State University Professor of English and Kestrel Editor-in-Chief, Donna Long.

Since 1993, Kestrel has published writers and artists from around the world, and since 2008 has celebrated each biannual issue by bringing contributors to Fairmont State’s campus for a weekend of literary events. The on-campus Kestrel Celebration is scheduled for October 14 and 15.
