MURRY CHOSEN FOR 2023 NCAA DIVISION III STUDENT IMMERSION PROGRAM
Bethany College women’s basketball student-athlete Samaria Murry is among 40 individuals who were selected to the 2023 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program during the NCAA Convention on Jan. 11-14, in San Antonio, Texas.
“It’s an honor to be selected to be a part of the NCAA Immersion Program and to be among other DIII athletes who aim to impact the world of athletics in the future,” says Murry. “I’m looking forward to seeing how many different career avenues people have made for themselves. I hope to be able to gain insight and inspiration from others that might impact my career choices moving forward.”
At the NCAA Convention, Murry had the chance to build on her previous leadership experience. Murry joined Bethany’s Director of Athletics Brian Sansom and Assistant Director of Athletics for Academics and Compliance Jen Windmiller at the convention, witnessing key business meetings and networking with the power brokers of collegiate athletics.
“Samaria is an amazing young woman, and we couldn’t have a better representative for Bethany College and the PAC,” says Windmiller. “She embodies what we want out of our student-athletes – success in the classroom, an active member in campus organizations, and a great team member of our women’s basketball program. I am excited for her to learn more about different career opportunities within college athletics, where I believe she will be a phenomenal leader in any area she should choose to pursue.”
Established in 2015, the NCAA Division III governance staff and the NCAA Office of Inclusion partnered on a program that brings 40 ethnic minority students to the NCAA Convention. The Student Immersion Program is geared towards people of color and ethnic minorities to provide networking opportunities, leadership training, and prepare student-athletes for careers in athletic administration and coaching. The programming’s objective is to create a pool of individuals that will eventually diversify Division III’s coaching and/or administrative landscape.
