The Davis and Elkins men's and women's tennis teams split a pair of matches Sunday, downing Bluefield University (Va.) before falling to Bluefield State University (W.Va.) at the City Park Tennis Center.

In the day's first matchup, the Senator men topped the Rams by a 5-2 score, while the women earned a 4-0 win. The men dropped the doubles point to start 0-1 down, but rebounded to take five of the six singles spots to secure the victory.

Viktor Yanev, Santiago Ordonez, and Anthony Martins each won their singles in straight sets, while Taiki Umeda and Filippo Buffo went to third set super-breakers to earn their wins.

In the afternoon match against host Bluefield State (W.Va.), D&E fell 3-4 on the men's side while the women fell 1-4.

Eloise Hutton was victorious in singles for the Senators, claiming her number two singles match by 6-1, 6-1 margin.

The men's match was closer than expected against the Big Blues, who are currently ranked in the top five in the Atlantic Region. D&E narrowly lost the doubles point, falling 6-7 (6), and 5-7 at the top two positions.

Yanev quickly knotted the match at 1-1 with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win at #1 singles for his second win of the day. Ordonez followed suit winning 6-3, 6-1 in the #3 spot.

The Big Blues nabbed wins at #2, and #4, but Kyle Hawthorne got the Senators back on track with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win at #6 singles.

Bluefield State closed out the match with a convincing win at #5 singles, as D&E's Julian Tamburini fell 1-6, 1-6 for the final margin.

The Senators return to the courts on Wednesday, travelling to Buckhannon for matches with West Virginia Wesleyan and West Virginia State.
