U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) issued a video statement today in celebration of West Virginia Day, which falls on Thursday, June 20.
In her message, Senator Capito highlighted the unique history and beauty of West Virginia. "West Virginia has a unique story as the only state carved out of another and it remains a place with some of the most wonderful people and the most beautiful destinations in the world," she said.
Senator Capito also noted that this year marks West Virginia's 161st birthday. She encouraged residents to take time to celebrate the state's history, connect with their community, and appreciate its natural resources. "Take pride in being a West Virginian, I certainly do!" she added.
She further emphasized the communal spirit of West Virginians by stating, "Our state is just one big small town." According to Capito, the people of West Virginia are characterized by kindness, resilience, and strength—values that benefit not only their state but also the entire country.
Concluding her message with well wishes for the occasion, she said, "So, happy West Virginia Day!"
