U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) has issued a video statement celebrating the 248th anniversary of America's Independence ahead of July 4th.

In her message, Senator Capito expressed well-wishes for the holiday: "Happy Independence Day! I hope that you, your families, and your friends all enjoy a big celebration."

Reflecting on the historical significance of the day, she remarked, "On July 4th, 1776, America’s Founding Fathers laid the cornerstone of the most free and prosperous nation in the history of the world." She continued by emphasizing the principles enshrined in the Declaration of Independence: "The Declaration of Independence cemented that we are all endowed by our creator with inalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

Senator Capito also acknowledged those who have contributed to preserving these ideals over nearly two and a half centuries. "We owe all our founders, and the men and women who have fought to preserve our nation over the last 248 years, a great deal of thanks," she stated.

She concluded her message with a call for celebration among her constituents: "I hope all West Virginians and your loved ones take the time to celebrate our great country, and all the blessings we enjoy this 4th of July."
