West Virginia's sales tax holiday, scheduled for August 5-8, presents an opportunity for residents to support local businesses. NFIB State Director Gil White emphasizes the significance of this event, especially given the economic challenges that small businesses have faced since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

"This is a great chance for people to score some terrific deals and help support the local businesses that continue to provide for their communities and keep people working despite the economic challenges," said White.

White noted that while surviving the initial months of the pandemic was a major accomplishment for West Virginia's Main Street, business owners now face additional hurdles such as supply chain disruptions, high gas prices, and inflation. The latest Small Business Economic Trends report by NFIB indicates that inflation remains the top concern for small business owners.

"If people do at least some of their back-to-school shopping at local businesses, they’ll not only find great deals and great service, but they’ll help the small, family-run businesses that do a lot throughout the year to support their communities and keep people working," White added.
