Agriculture and conservation agencies are set to be the focus at the State Capitol on Thursday, February 20. The West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) and the West Virginia Conservation Agency (WVCA) will come together to highlight their contributions to the state.

The event, Ag and Conservation Day at the Capitol, is designed to facilitate interactions between lawmakers, visitors, and agencies that support West Virginia's farmers and promote sustainable agriculture. Representatives from various programs within these agencies will be present to discuss their initiatives.

"Agriculture is woven into every part of our daily lives," said Commissioner of Agriculture Kent Leonhardt. "It’s in the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the protection of our natural resources. The WVDA and WVCA are essential to preserving our farmlands and waterways. This event allows lawmakers to see our programs in action, engage with our staff, and gain a deeper understanding of how agriculture and conservation drive West Virginia’s future."

The Capitol rotunda will feature over 40 interactive displays covering topics such as the WVDA’s WV Grown Marketing Program, Apiary Industry, WV Spay and Neuter program, and VetStart West Virginia initiative aimed at establishing a four-year veterinary technician program in the state.

For further details about Ag and Conservation Day at the Capitol, contact WVDA Director of Communications Beth Southern at 304-558-3708 or via email at bsouthern@wvda.us.
