U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito, representing West Virginia, engaged with local communities during her visit to Kanawha County on October 3, 2024. As a prominent member of the Senate Appropriations and Environment and Public Works Committees, Senator Capito spent time at East Bank Middle School and the GreenPower Manufacturing Facility.

During her visit to East Bank Middle School, Senator Capito addressed the eighth-grade students about her public service career and ongoing work in the U.S. Senate. She expressed admiration for the students' potential: "I am always inspired by the young people of our state and their potential, and the students at East Bank Middle School are no exception," she stated. The session included discussions on civics and government branches.

Following her school visit, Senator Capito toured GreenPower Motor Company in South Charleston, a facility focused on manufacturing electric school buses. While there, she met with company leaders and presented new electric bus keys to Dr. John Henry, Superintendent of Wyoming County Schools.

Reflecting on GreenPower's commitment to West Virginia over the past two years, Senator Capito remarked: "Just over two years ago, GreenPower pledged to bring operations to West Virginia. And today, we’re getting another new school bus—made with West Virginia aluminum from Jackson County—on the road that will safely bring our children in Wyoming County to and from school." She highlighted the positive impact of such initiatives on both economic development and education within the state.

Mark Nestlen, Vice President of Business Development and Strategy at GreenPower Motor Company, appreciated Senator Capito's visit: "It was wonderful to welcome Senator Capito to the facility and show her the products we are making here in West Virginia."

Photos from these visits document moments such as Senator Capito interacting with students at East Bank Middle School and presenting keys for an electric bus at GreenPower's facility.
